Mother nature provides us a wide variety of plants timber species, just one of them can presume of its beautiful waving grain patterns, this is the Juglans Regia or Spaish Walnut, that is accompanied by the beech wood, other well-known precious timber. ArtesMoble uses the beech wood as a complement to the Spanish Walnut, for manufacturing structures, moldings, and carvings. Let’s see an example of our know-how. In this occasion, we show the main steps and processes to follow for the manufacturing of our Classic Sideboard with doors and drawers. Sideboard that belongs to our Classic furniture collection. This high quality process aims and achieves the excellency throughout our furniture manufacturing process, which is present in the Classic and Contemporary high quality furniture collection.

Once sketched and agreed the design of the sideboard on a plane, we proceed to draw in natural scale, sectioning the furniture in different parts to be worked separately, such as, moldings, strip wood, sides, doors, shaped legs, Spanish walnut boards, miters…. When it is completed, we proceed to join them with different assemblies, that according to model and function, it can be half-lap joint, tongue and groove joint, through dovetail joint, box joint, biscuit joint, among others.

During this laborious process, we use an assorted types of machinery, step by step, each piece gives shape our high quality sideboard, which is made with the know-how of Spanish joinery and great furniture professionals in Spain.

The great capacity sideboard measures 190cm width, 54cm deep and 90cm high. The sideboard has three inside separate compartments, with a shelf adjustable in height, a side drawer in each side, and four external doors. The design features a central protrude area, decorated with fine moldings extended along its base.

The sideboard is escorted by our quality team, throughout the manufacturing and finishing process. Our quality team must check the optimum development of the different processes in order to meet our desired high quality standard until packaging and distribution.

First of all , the two main structures and base have to be worked. In the left and center picture, we can see the work done under the lid, there is clearly perceived the protruding central section. The Spanish walnut wood is arranged on the double sided lid. Straight and curved moldings are attached to the lid by tongue and groove joints, reinforced with wood strips to a square set. This work is hidden underneath the moldings, that gives thickness and reinforced the lid. In the right picture you can see the upper side of the sideboard, where the waving grain patterns of the Spanish walnut wood are ordered along its length and given thickness to the edges with fine straight and curved moldings.

Once the lid is finished, the base must be worked, the waving grain patterns of the Spanish walnut wood are arranged on its base by its length and double sided , the process consist of incorporating straight and curved moldings to the edges, all of them are made of solid beech wood, to match the sideboard lid and the base edges. The base has a mortise interior reinforced with wedges and solid strip woods, on which the shaped legs are joined, to give the sideboard height, and to protect it from possible damp.

When the main structures, lid and base have been worked separately, we proceed to assemble the interior strip solid beech wood on the lid structure, to distribute the interior room in three parts; two lateral and one central. Pieces that not only reinforce the furniture but also make up the structure on which the interior sides are assembled, at the same time we prepare the base structure to receive the biscuit joint on the interior sides and the tenon assemblies on the lateral sides.

The interior sides have the waving grain patterns of the Spanish walnut wood arranged vertically and double sided. All sides have interior small drill holes to adjust the height of the interior shelves. The front side incorporates recessed beech wood strip to integrate the hinges doors and locks. In addition, the sides incorporate a horizontal interior strip wood, that reinforces them and serves as drawers glides, the drawers are placed inside and each side of the sideboard. The sides are securely fixed to the upper and base structure by using the same pressure system for joinery, clamps and white glue. To be finally assembled the back board, that features the waving grain patterns of the Spanish walnut wood arranged vertically and double-sided.

When the main section of the furniture has been completed assembled, we add the doors, which have been already worked and adjusted in parallel.

The doors have keyholes, and their waving grain patterns of the Spanish walnut Wood are arranged along its length and double-sided. Each door has two moldings, one mitered straight to the front which decorates and frames it, and other curved molding in the hinges side which coordinates with the curved trim of the lid and base, giving continuity to the curved molding, and allowing full opening of the door 180º, those are special details of our master cabinetmakers know-how.

The last step of the raw manufacturing process is to add the interior shelves, that feature the Spanish walnut wood arranged along its length and double sided. The shelves allow the distribution of the interior section according to needs. then, two practical drawers are placed on the interior glides.

Now we can see, how the different moldings and all the work done are perfectly integrated, creating a gorgeous sideboard of great design and perfect Spanish joinery.
