We are proud of being the first Spanish brand that introduced elegant linear designs into its catalog to promote a new style, the contemporary furniture, that emerged at the end of the 20th century. This design fuses the know-how of traditional cabinetmaking with modern simple and linear designs in Spanish walnut. Artesmoble began to exhibit its first pieces of contemporary furniture of simple design at the International Furniture Fair in Madrid, in the Pavilion dedicated to High Decoration, where the best Spanish brands of the time were present (editions 1197 to 1999). These contemporary furniture pieces were initially integrated into ArtesMoble's general catalog of Classic Victorian style furniture, breaking with the traditional and dominant style concept of the time. Our first elegant linear design was the contemporary coffee table with drawers, followed by the light look double-sided finished bookcases, but what really triggered us to launch a catalog with only contemporary pieces was the contemporary bookcase with miter and bevel front in 1999.
At first, many of Spain's top decorators and high-end shops were reluctant to buy this new style, they found it too simple for their showrooms based that their clients only liked the classic style, even though the new style still retained ArtesMoble's unique waxed finish and
high-quality processing. Gradually, Contemporary furniture was introduced to the market,
ArtesMoble unified and published its first catalog of High-Quality Contemporary Furniture in 2000, which brought together the novelties presented at the Madrid Furniture Fair with the designs presented in previous editions.
The new Artesmoble catalog was entitled Contemporary.
Other Spanish firms, which focused on reproducing classic-style furniture, followed in
Artesmoble's footsteps, publishing their own collections of
contemporary furniture, consolidating a new style that
was born in Spain, within the most select firms that manufactured the highest quality furniture, such as
Artespaña and Varo Valenti. This new style gradually spread to lower quality segments, surviving to this day, so much so, at the last edition of the
Valencia Furniture Fair, where
Artesmoble launched the first solar design table in the High Decoration Pavilion, there were two pavilions with the heading "
Contemporary". We must not forget, that Spanish
contemporary furniture has emerged from the high decoration segment, although today it is being introduced in other segments with lower quality furniture.
It makes sense that this new style of contemporary furniture has emerged from a firm oriented to
High Decoration such as Artesmoble. Thus,
if the craftsmanship, know-how, sustainability, and durability of traditional furniture are added to simple and linear furniture, the result is an elegant and timeless piece of furniture. In 2005 the Madrid College of Decorators and Interior Designers awarded
ArtesMoble's design team the first design prize, and in 2008 the Madrid International Furniture Fair awarded
ArtesMoble a
prize in recognition of the company's track record and contribution to design.
Today,
ArtesMoble offers one of the most important and select collections of
High-Quality Contemporary Furniture, covering all areas of the home, such as bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, entrance halls, complementary furniture, and professional offices. An exclusive collection based on
artisan know-how to create high-quality contemporary furniture made of Spanish walnut wood enhanced with perfect waxed finishes and other selected materials such as stainless steel.
